Worship & Prayer

Worship at Lyndon during May - From Spectator to Parcticipant!

And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. Acts 2:2,4

Because the story of Jesus is so impressive – God among us; God speaking a language that we can understand; God acting in ways that heal and save us – there is a danger that we can become so impressed that we sit on the side lines in awe and wonder and become enthusiastic spectators. We can become admirers, fans of Jesus rather than followers of his way.

The New Testament writer Luke, writing in the Acts of the Apostles – his follow up to his Gospel – will have none of that, and he continues to tell God’s story as the apostles and disciples live it into the next generation. And the season of Pentecost ensures that it’s lived into the next generation and the next and the next........until we are in on the action; God living in us; God acting through us. We are no more a spectator of Jesus than Jesus was a spectator of God, so come and be stirred by the Spirit.

On the 2nd May, Karen Hilsden leads our morning worship with the theme of “I am making all things new!”. At the service we will also be commissioning our new Church Stewarding Team and joining with Hugh, Ruth and John as we bless the new piano that has been purchased in Joyce’s name for the Church Centre.

On Sunday 9th May we celebrate World Leprosy Sunday, which is a wonderful opportunity to join with people around the world in praying for those affected by leprosy and those working to eliminate the causes and consequences of the disease. This year we will be focusing on Nepal. At Anandaban Hospital, patients not only receive medical care but are helped in the emotional and spiritual journey towards healing and wholeness as they embrace the words of the Psalmist 'Praise the LORD, O my soul ... who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases’. There are 3 opportunities to be in on the action. First at 8.30am Communion Service; secondly at our Family Worship & Parade service at 10.30am lead by Alistair Du Pleissie from the Leprosy Mission; and finally at 6.30pm Alistair will lead a more reflective service.

On the 23rd May, Pentecost Sunday, we celebrate with Matt Baker who presents himself to be baptised and with those wishing to become church members. Our evening service that night is cancelled to give us an opportunity to join Andi and Kerry Smith at their testimonial service at Coventry Central Hall 6.30pm. Come and be an active participant!!
