PHAB
I have been leader for approx 14 years now having started as a member and worked my way up through the committee at the time. We no longer have a committee but 4 officers that are trustees of the registered charity.
The club meets on Tuesday evenings from 7.30-9.30pm and is open to people with and without physical disabilities aged 13+years (no upper age limit).
The PHAB Aim:
"To promote and encourage people with and without Physical Disabilities to come together on equal terms to achieve complete integration within the wider community"
Every three months the members decide on a programme of social activities such as crafts, team building/disability awareness nights, bingo, quizzes, archery, ten pin bowling etc. The first week is free so that people can see if it is what they want and if they decide to join the subscription is £1.00 per week when they attend (unless its a special activity).
Forms for membership and welfare need to be completed to cover them on the Phab Insurance package. We also have social events away from the club such as Beer and Skittles Nights, Christmas Meals, Daytrips and Mini Holidays.
As we are self funding we undertake numerous fundraising activities including street collections, trusts, auctions etc. All donations are gratefully received as we try and provide subsidies for all our main events to assist members in residential care and on benefits.
Lyndon Phab was established at Lyndon Methodist Church in 1977 so we will be celebrating our 30th birthday next May whilst Phab England (National Body) celebrates its 50th birthday.
People can either turn up on a Tuesday Evening or telephone for more details on 0121 682 3170 and speak to the Treasurer Ilma Whitehouse.
