Breakfast Church
The initial group from Brigades were joined by 2 young people who had grown up through Jesus Crew and 3 young people from the local community, who started regularly attending church during the Cliff mission. The group spans the 12-18 age range and we have been really fortunate to have somebody to sign for one of the young people who is deaf. We’ve now met 5 times, have up to 16 young people attending and are following a programme called Youth Emmaus, which is an introductory course to faith.
Just to give you a flavour – today we explored how Jesus pointed us to God through miracles, parables and the way he responded to those he met. Through quizzes, games (involving how many marshmallows you can cram in your mouth and still speak!), small group discussion, worship (with young people playing the guitars) and prayer we discussed how God is for us and wants us to be for each other. Three young people shared parables which meant most to them – the lost coin, showing how we should always keep seeking after God; the lost sheep, showing how each of us matters to God; and the prodigal son, showing that no matter how much we might foul up, God is waiting to welcome us back.
Our plans are to maintain the mission focus, drawing in more of the young people from Brigades and from the community, through our Church outreach into some of our local schools.
For those of us involved, Breakfast Church is a real joy – please pray for the young people and the growth of Breakfast Church
