Harvest Weekend 2011

During the week leading up to Harvest Sunday, the Ladies & Men of the flower club were busy preparing to decorate the church. On Friday, one of the hottest days of the year, after much planning & preparation, the ladies, with the assistance of some of their menfolk, spent a day decorating the church & vestibule.

During a break for refreshment, Deb Humphries led a short time of worship & thanks for all the gifts & talents which God has given to us all.

The results of these talents & gifts can be seen in the photos on this website (follow the link at the bottom of this page). The theme for this year was the hymn “We plough the fields & scatter the good seed on the land”. All the individual displays had appropriate words from the hymn displayed alongside.

On the Saturday evening the first “Pudding Club” was held as another Harvest celebration. Many puddings were enjoyed by all, thanks to Libby & Richard & others; as well as donations to church funds, amounting to over £120.

On Sunday morning Barry Davies led the worship with a sermon on Ploughing, Sowing & Reaping, with reference to how ideas for the flowers in the church had been planned, sown & reaped. Lyndon Sings Out , one of our singing groups, sang an Introit – Misty Morning.

On Sunday evening our Minister Rev Julia, led us in one of our regular Songs of Praise Services, where members of the congregation chose their favourite hymns & songs. Some people also spoke about their choices, explaining that their song reminded them of times past, when they were at school taking harvest gifts or at home having a picnic after harvesting on the farm.

Libby & Sam talked about the “Parable of the Apple Pie”, cooks love this time of year because there is so much food available to make jams, pickles etc.

Lyndon Sings Out appeared again singing a lovely version of The Lord’s Prayer.
