Holy Week & Easter in Stained Glass 1

The Angry Christ
The Angry Christ
The young people explored the idea of God’s anger with one young man pointing to the story of Noah’s Ark. We talked about what made God angry today and themes of exclusion, exploitation and bullying were discussed within their school setting.
From an artistic point of view, the group drew inspiration from El Greco’s Cleansing the Temple and Picasso’s Guernica, and from a synthesis of ideas came their contemporary version of the Angry Christ, a powerful riot of colour and images that challenges a meek and mild image of Jesus. I was impressed with the spirituality of the youngsters and their ability to work as a team to produce the finished piece.
