Cross of Victory
In bright gold, this is a cross of victory and celebration. It reflects John’s understanding of Jesus fulfilling his mission and moving to the moment when God will glorify him. When I look at this picture I am reminded of Jesus’ words from the cross “it is finished.” The task that you have sent me to do I have completed through love. Its bold and powerful representation also reminds me of St Paul’s words in Galatians 6 “But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.” There is nothing to boast of in human virtue in the face of this key event in history, all the vain things of life are willingly sacrificed.
