During the week-end of 25th-26th April, Lyndon Methodist church in the Birmingham Elmdon Circuit had a double celebration. These were the golden jubilee of the opening of the present church building in 1959, and celebration of 70 years of a Methodist church on the present site.

With the church beautifully decorated with flowers by the flower ladies, about 130 past and present members and friends, were welcomed by the minister Rev. Julia Monaghan, to a celebration tea. Much happy reminiscing took place, helped by a pictorial display and archive material, including film of the opening of the church in 1959. An emotional experience was shared by all present, when a recording was played, of a Harvest Concert from 1965, performed by the church choir of that era, some members of which were at the celebration. All 14 former ministers were remembered, and many treasured past friendships renewed.

A beautifully crafted 50th anniversary banner was displayed. This showed the Cross, and tongues of flame depicting the Holy Spirit and had been produced by a gifted church member, Lilian Harvey. A splendidly decorated celebration cake was cut, which had also been produced by a church member, Marion Pontin. The cake was cut by 2 former Trustees at Lyndon, Hugh Barstow and Tom Bate.
